Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is reportedly holding out of the Dolphins offseason workouts as he and the organization are negotiating a new deal.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Tagovailoa has been absent for most of the Dolphins’ voluntary workouts.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler:

“He has missed some OTA time, I’ve confirmed, and really it could depend on how negotiations go with his contract as to whether he starts to show up or is there full time,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter. “They have had contract talks, preliminary talks. I’m told that the Dolphins have made at least one contract offer but we know how these things go; the offer apparently hasn’t been good enough or he’d probably be there full time. So, the market is pretty set. We saw Jared Goff, $50-plus million a year, that’s going to apply to Tua and Trevor Lawrence.”

Tagovailoa is set to play the 2024 season on an expiring contract. The former Alabama star probably wants to receive an extension before Week 1 arrives.

Back in January, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier talked about keeping Tagovailoa in Miami for the long haul.

“We never talk about money or anything, just good conversations about where he is and the relationship with (head coach) Mike (McDaniel) and the team here and everything he’s done,” Grier said, via CBS Sports. “So the goal is to have him here long-term playing at a high level. That’s always the goal and we’ll continue to communicate with him through the offseason here.”

Tagovailoa finished last season with 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Dolphins were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

For now, Tua remains away from the team.. we’ll see if his holdout drags into training camp.
