BREAKING: Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy To Undergo Knee Surgery, Out Indefinitely

There were a lot of Minnesota Vikings fans that were concerned when head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy wouldn’t be practicing on Monday due to knee soreness.

Those concerns were warranted as it’s now being reported that McCarthy will undergo knee surgery to fix a meniscus issue and he’s expected to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

McCarthy, the tenth overall pick out of Michigan in this year’s draft, has mostly worked with the Vikings-second team offense throughout training camp. He was impressive in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Raiders, completing 11 of 17 passes for 188 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception.

With McCarthy sidelined, the Vikings will start Sam Darnold Week 1 against the New York Giants.
