The Falcons continue to solidify their defense.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Atlanta is signing cornerback A.J. Terrell to a four-year, $81 million contract extension with $65.8 million guaranteed.
Terrell is now the second-highest-paid cornerback in the NFL by salary at $20.25 million per year, behind only the Green Bay Packers‘ Jaire Alexander at $21 million per year.
The 25-year-old Clemson product was a second-team All Pro in 2021 and has been regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. The Falcons drafted him with the 16th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
In 2021, Terrell had three interceptions and 16 passes defended (sixth in the NFL). He has not had an interception since then but has 36 pass breakups over his four NFL seasons.
Last week, the Falcons traded for pass rusher Matthew Judon and followed it up by signing Justin Simmons to a one-year, $8 million contract.
