Giants GM Joe Schoen Tells Bears GM Ryan Poles That It “Must Be Nice” To Not Have To Scout QBs Anymore

Daniel Jones remains the Giants starting quarterback heading into the 2024 season but make no mistake about it, if Giants general manager Joe Schoen had his way, the Giants would’ve traded up to draft his replacement in last April’s 2024 Draft.

Despite failing to replace Jones, Schoen is still openly hinting at replacing the embattled signal-caller. During HBO Hard Knocks, Schoen was caught on the hot-mic having a conversation with Bears general manager Ryan Poles ahead of Saturday’s Clemson-Georgia game.

“Gotta be nice not to be looking at the, uh … ” Schoen tells Poles on the sidelines.

“Quarterback?” Poles responds, finishing the thought. “Yeah. Hopefully it stays that way for a long time.”

Here’s the clip:

It could be that Schoen is simply congratulating Poles for securing Caleb Williams but if you remember the offseason edition of Hard Knocks which followed the New York Giants, you could see how much Joe Schoen was trying to trade up with the New England Patriots to secure Drake Maye.

In the end, Schoen and the Giants stayed at No. 6 and selected LSU WR Malik Nabers. As for Daniel Jones, it seems pretty clear that if he starts the season slow, he’ll probably end up getting benched.

The Giants open the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
