REPORT: Robert Saleh Wanted To Fire OC Nathanial Hackett Before He Was Fired Himself

When the news dropped Tuesday morning that the New York Jets had fired head coach Robert Saleh, the minds of many fans went immediately to Aaron Rodgers and the probably role the future Hall of Fame QB had in the team’s decision.

We’re slowly getting some clues that that was indeed the case – or at least factored in.

Per CBS Sports, Robert Saleh was considering canning offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett prior to being ousted himself. The Jets have one of the league’s worst and lowest scoring offenses for a second year in a row under Hackett, who is Rodgers’ right hand man, dating back to their time in Green Bay, which landed Hackett as the Broncos head coach and now the Jets OC.

Rodgers reportedly spoke with owner Woody Johnson after the team’s disappointing loss to the Vikings in London, but it was allegedly not about Saleh’s job security.

Most likely, Rodgers got the feeling that his QB would not be happy with Hackett losing his job.

UPDATE: A new report has clarified that Saleh was never intent on firing Hackett, but rather limiting his game-day responsibilities by taking away his play calling duties.
