San Francisco 49ers star pass rusher Nick Bosa has been fined $11,255 for violating the NFL’s uniform and equipment rules. Thursday fine temps from him wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat in support of new President-elect Donald Trump.
The NFL rulebook, Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 of the NFL rulebook gives more context on why the fine was handed down.
“Throughout the period on game-day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.”
osa was also asked if he was “tempted in the past” to brandish his support for Trump. “It’s definitely a little easier nowadays, but no, I don’t feel too inclined to do that,” Bosa said. The MAGA hat incident occurred the same night as Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Trump administration is taking heat for the rally due to the racist and discriminatory speech from multiple speakers.
In the win against the Cowboys, Bosa collected three tackles, one tack for loss, one sack and three quarterback hits. Through eight games this season, Bosa has tallied 28 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He has spent his entire career with the 49ers and has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times.
