Russell Wilson has made it clear that his preference is to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers and it appears the Steelers are open to the idea of Wilson returning in 2025 and beyond.
Wilson revealed on The Pat McAfee Show that he has begun contract discussions with the Steelers.
“Yes, we have been starting to talk a little bit,” Wilson said on “The Pat McAfee Show“ when asked if he and the Steelers have begun contract talks. “We’ve had our meetings and everything else, just getting into it. So I think that it’s an exciting time to be a Pittsburgh Steeler and the opportunity of what we can do.”
The 36-year-old Wilson played alright for the Steelers in 2024, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in 11 games while completing 63.7 percent of his passes. The Steelers were just 6-5 in his starts, and lost their lone playoff game, finishing the season with five straight losses.
Several reports came out during the season that the Steelers and Wilson were mutually interested in signing a long-term deal after the season. But as the season went on and how it ultimately ended with a playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens, many began to be skeptical about Wilson’s future with Pittsburgh.
The other quarterback, Justin Fields, is also a free agent and the it’ll be interesting to see how the Steelers approach this offseason. For now, they seem to be very open to retaining Wilson.
