REPORT: Shedeur Sanders May Miss Preseason Game After Suffering Oblique Injury During Practice

Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ quest to continue to climb the Cleveland Browns quarterback depth chart just took a hit after he suffered an injury.

According to the Browns, Sanders injured his oblique while throwing early during the team’s joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday. The injury is significant enough that it could lead to Sanders missing Cleveland’s preseason matchup against the Eagles this upcoming Saturday.

Sanders is undergoing further evaluations.

Sanders was coming off an impressive preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in a 30-10 victory.

Sanders’ oblique issue is just the most recent injury for the Browns quarterback room. Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel missed Week 1 of the preseason due to hamstring injuries, which led Cleveland to sign quarterback Tyler Huntley.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Pickett hasn’t taken part in team drills since July 26, but Gabriel has now participated in team drills two days in a row after experiencing hamstring tightness last week. If preseason Week 1 was the “Shedeur Showcase,” perhaps Week 2 is the “Gabriel game.”Â
