New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields had a brutal week.
Not only was Fields benching in the second half of the Jets’ Week 7 loss against the Carolina Panthers, the team’s owner Woody Johnson publicly criticized Fields at the NFL owners’ meeting in New York.
Fields quieted the doubters including Woody, at least for a week, following his Week 8 performance en route to a 39-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Fields put on a show, completing 65.6% of his passes for 244 yards and one touchdown. He also added 31 yards on the ground.
Fields spoke to the media after the victory and was asked how he dealt with Johnson’s comments throughout the week.
“That’s outside noise at the end of the day. I get that he’s the owner of the team but that’s outside noise. The biggest thing was my teammates believing in me and my coaches believing in me”, Fields said.
