Joe Burrow is set to make his triumphant return on Thanksgiving night when the Cincinnati Bengals travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in what’s shaping up to be the make-or-break game for the Bengals season.
The Cincinnati Bengals are facing off against the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving night in what’s shaping up to be the make-or-break game for the Bengals this season.
Ahead of the big game, Burrow met with reporters and was asked about playing on Thanksgiving and his memories of watching football on Thanksgiving.
Burrow’s responded by taking a swipe at the Detroit Lions while complementing Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson.
“You grow up going through Thanksgiving, you have your meals, and you sit on the couch, watch the Lions versus somebody, watch Matthew Stafford throw 300, 400 yards with Calvin Johnson, and probably lose the game.”
Burrow is spot on with that statement despite it being a low blow to the Lions. Stafford was a Detroit Lion from 2009 to 2020 and during that span, the Lions were 4-8 on Thanksgiving, with their only wins being in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Stafford missed one Thanksgiving matchup in this span in 2010, so Stafford in Detroit has a 3-7 record, while the Lions have a 3-8 record since the future Hall of Famer was drafted.
Burrow’s comments could come back to haunt him considering him and Joe Burrow are in a similar circumstance that Stafford and Johnson were during their time with the Lions. Burrow and Chase have had some historic offensive performances but they’ve come in a losing effort.
The Bengals and Ravens will kickoff on Thursday night at 8:15 p.m. ET on NBC.
