BREAKING: Philip Rivers Is Coming Out Of Retirement And Signing With Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are signing 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers to their practice squad after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending achilles injury in Sunday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Rivers worked out for the team Tuesday, and the team felt comfortable enough to bring him back. Rivers became a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame just last month, but the Hall of Fame will wait, as Rivers has a Colts’ season to save.

The 44-year-old Rivers, who is now a grandfather, joins a quarterback room with Riley Leonard and Brett Rypien. Leonard is considered to be the starting quarterback with Anthony Richardson on injured reserve recovering from an orbital fracture.

Rivers becomes the fourth quarterback 44 years old or older to start an NFL game, joining Tom Brady, Vinny Testaverde, Warren Moon and Steve DeBerg.
