DK Metcalf’s physical confrontation with a Detroit Lions fan on Sunday will cost him the rest of the regular season and more than $555,000 in salary.
But that’s not the only thing it’ll cost him.
The two-game suspension for what the NFL describes as “conduct detrimental to the league” also voids at least $45 million in future guaranteed money for the Steelers receiver. Metcalf would still be able to earn that money over the next two years, it just won’t be guaranteed.
CBS cameras caught Metcalf throwing a punch at a Lions fan during the first half of the Steelers’ 29-24 win on Sunday. Metcalf reportedly had prior history with the fan when he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
Metcalf plans to appeal his two-game suspension. If upheld, it’ll end Metcalf’s regular season and it would be the least productive year of his career. His 59 receptions are the fewest since his 2019 rookie season, and his 850 yards would be his least in his seven seasons.
Meanwhile, the Steelers can clinch the AFC North this weekend with a win or a loss by the Ravens, who travel to Lambeau and play the Packers. However, if the Ravens win and the Steelers drop one to the Browns, it’ll setup a Week 18 win and in game between the Ravens and Steelers and Metcalf won’t be playing in that game.
