The Washington Commanders are signing veteran tackle D.J. Humphries, the team announced on Tuesday.
The signing adds an experienced tackle to the left side of Washington’s offensive line after the lost Laremy Tunsil to a torn triceps on August 5th. Tunsil underwent surgery but it remains unlikely that Tunsil will be able to return this season.
Humphries would back up starter Brandon Coleman for now but that could change if Coleman continues to struggle on the left side. Coleman started 15 games at left tackle in 2024, including all three postseason games as the Commanders reached the NFC Championship Game.
Humphries has started 101 games, most of them at left tackle, and made the Pro Bowl after the 2021 season. He started one game for the Rams last season and two the previous year with the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent the majority of his career with the Arizona Cardinals.
