Joey Porter Jr. Threatens To Sit Out Week 1 Amid Ongoing Contract Dispute With Steelers

The ongoing contract dispute between the Pittsburgh Steelers and star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. could spill over into the regular season.

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Porter Jr. was noncommittal on playing in Week 1 when asked.

“I don’t know. I would have to talk to the guys upstairs and my agents about that one,” Porter said.

Porter did take part in the Steelers’ walk-through practice but said that’s not any indication of whether or not he’ll be playing in the Steelers season opener on Sept. 13 against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Steelers selected Porter Jr. with in the second-round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He is the son of Joey Porter, who also played for the Steelers.
