
The Philadelphia Eagles will keep retired right tackle Lane Johnson on their 53-man roster for the rest of the season, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.
The decision gives Philadelphia a way to manage the salary-cap fallout from Johnson’s retirement.
The All-Pro right tackle abruptly retired last week, but the financial implications will impact the Eagles’ roster for years. Keeping Lane Johnson on the roster gives the Eagles a 2026 solution while they work through the longer-term consequences of his contract. On the flip side, the Eagles will only be allowed to carry 52 players on their roster instead of 53.
Philadelphia has turned to rookie Markel Bell at right tackle and elevated John Ojukwu for Sunday’s matchup against Jacksonville in London. The Eagles also signed center Jake Majors to the active roster after trading Cam Jurgens to Baltimore and ruling out Drew Kendall with a knee injury.
The Eagles will look to end their two-game losing streak in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
