Despite the trade interest he’s garnering, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports a well placed source with the team say there is “no way” the New York Jets will trade star wide receiver Garrett Wilson before the November 10 deadline.
Unlike previous deadline deals involving Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, Wilson’s situation is different. Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension just 15 months ago, running through 2030.
On top of that, Jets ownership views him as a vital cornerstone, and Wilson has explicitly stated he wants to stay and win in New York. They’ve also accumulated multiple future first-round picks, and prefer keeping their elite young talent over stockpiling more picks.
Wilson recently told reporters that he did not want to be traded.
“I want to be here, man,” he said. “I want to win games, and that’s the one thing we’ve been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I’m hopeful.
“I’ve never been the best optimistic guy, but I’ve found a way and dug deep, and I’ve been optimistic for three, four, five years now. And that’s why these [losses] each weekend hurt a little more.”
Other wide receivers that Schefter lists that are available include Jaguars’ Brian Thomas Jr., Colts’ Josh Downs, Vikings’ Jauan Jennings, Browns’ Jerry Jeudy and Titans’ Calvin Ridley.
The Jets (2-5) will host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at MetLife Stadium at 1:00 p.m. ET.
