The Baltimore Ravens signed quarterback Austin Reed to their practice squad on Monday following a 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills that left him facing a dire situation at quarterback ahead of a short-week matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.
Both of Baltimore’s top options were injured during Sunday’s game with Lamar Jackson suffering a potential season-ending hand injury and Tyler Huntley suffering a turf toe injury.
With third-string emergency quarterback Joe Fagnano—who went 10-of-21 for 91 yards and an interception in his NFL debut—currently projected to make his first career start, Austin Reed steps in as the primary backup.
Reed, 26, brings brief prior familiarity with Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle’s system from stints with the Chicago Bears, the UFL’s Dallas Renegades, and Baltimore’s training camp earlier this summer.
The Ravens are 4-4 in sit in last place in the AFC North.
