Garrett Wilson Is In Concussion Protocol Ahead Of Week 9 vs Chiefs

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson’s status for Sunday’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs is in question after head coach Aaron Glenn announced Wednesday that the star wideout has entered the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Although it remains uncertain when the injury occurred during Sunday’s 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, Wilson played the entire game and hauled in six receptions for 83 yards.

Clearing the league’s mandatory five-step concussion protocol requires progression from light balancing and aerobic exercises to non-contact football drills, culminating in final clearance from an independent neurological consultant and team physician.

Wilson has started all eight games for the Jets this season, pacing the offense with 43 catches, 527 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.

Having never missed a game due to a concussion in his career, his potential absence would deal a heavy blow to a struggling New York squad riding a three-game losing skid as they head to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs.

If Wilson cannot clear protocol in time for Sunday, Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper Jr. are expected to step in as the team’s primary receiving options.
