Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott denied spitting at Jalen Carter before the incident that resulted in the ejection of the Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle from Thursday season opener.
Speaking to reporters after the Cowboys’ 24-20 loss, Prescott explained he did spit when he was in the huddle with his teammates and Carter interpreted it as being aimed in his direction.
NBC’s cameras aired an angle showing Prescott spitting with Carter in the frame, but he is looking toward the ground when he does it.
Former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, who works as an analyst for NBC Sports, said Prescott told him he was talking to Tyler Booker and had to spit when Carter was in the vicinity of the action.
Speaking with reporters after the game, Dak went into further detail about the incident:
The NFL is currently investigating the incident and will likely hand down additional punishment to Jalen Carter.
