Former Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets running back Le’Veon Bell was arrested over then weekend for failing to pay child support. Bell is allegedly more than $50,000 behind on child support payments in Michigan, TMZ reports.
Bell allegedly owes over $50,000 in child support but is having trouble paying because his payments are based on his NFL salary. Bell made around $45 million in his career but has not played in the NFL since the 2021 season.
TMZ also obtained Bell’s mugshot:
The Steelers drafted Bell out of Michigan State in the second round of the draft. He had a solid rookie season and then broke out in 2014 as he was named first team All-Pro. He made a little more than $4 million on his rookie deal.
Bell played the 2017 season on the franchise tag which was worth about $12 million. He then sat out the 2018 season when the Steelers franchise tagged him again and missed out on $14 million in hopes of signing a long-term deal.
He eventually got a four-year deal from the New York Jets worth $52 million in 2019. According to OverTheCap, Bell only earned about $14 million from that deal. He was hurt in 2020, asked for a trade and ended up getting cut.
Bell earned about $45 million in his career playing for five different teams. He made the Pro Bowl three times with the Steelers but never came close to the same production after he sat out that season. His final two seasons were plagued by injury problems, and he was out of the league before his 30th birthday.
