Former Texas A&M running back Le’Veon Moss was arrested Monday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after his two-year-old son accidentally shot himself with an unsecured firearm, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by KBTX.
Records state that Baton Rouge police responded to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital around 1:51 p.m. after the child arrived with a gunshot wound. Officers spoke with Moss and his girlfriend at the hospital, who told them the incident occurred at their apartment on S. Flannery Road.
According to the affidavit, Moss told investigators he had placed a loaded gun underneath a pillow in his bedroom. While he and his girlfriend were upstairs, the two-year-old gained access to the weapon and accidentally fired it. Moss and his girlfriend then drove the child to the hospital in a private vehicle.
The child’s condition has not been released.
The affidavit states that “due to Moss’ negligence, a child under the age of seventeen suffered unjustifiable pain.”
Moss, 23, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one felony count of cruelty to juveniles under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:93. Bond has been set at $25,000.
Moss is a native of Baton Rouge, who played collegiate ball at Texas A&M for four seasons. During his college career, he appeared in 32 games, carrying the ball 321 times for 1,767 yards and 22 touchdowns. He earned Second-Team All-SEC honors in 2024.
His college career was marked by significant injuries, including a torn ACL and MCL during the 2024 season and an ankle injury in 2025 that limited his playing time.
Moss went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft before signing with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in May. He retired just four days after signing, reportedly receiving $258,000 in guaranteed money before stepping away from the game.
