It’s been quite the offseason for Kyle Shanahan.
In the wake of a statement-making season-opening win in Australia, news broke that the San Francisco 49ers had ‘quietly’ signed Kyle Shanahan to a contract extension.
The news was reported by Tom Pelissero of The Ringer and Netflix and comes less than 24 hours after the 49ers’ dominant 27-7 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Shanahan, now 46 and in his 10th season leading the Niners, was reportedly believed to be under contract through 2027 prior to his new deal.
Shanahan’s latest extension arrived during the same offseason in which Shanahan took the blame for a July car crash he was involved in, an accident that sidelined him during training camp. He told reporters that he was reaching for his fallen cell phone just before the collision.
Shanahan has compiled an 83-67 record at the helm of a franchise he’s led to two Super Bowl appearances.
