Cincinnati Bengals quarterback is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans and has indicated that he plans to play but just in case something goes wrong during pregame warmups, the Bengals have added another quarterback to their active roster.
On Saturday, the Bengals announced they have elevated quarterback Josh Johnson from the practice squad to the active roster. The plan is for Burrow to start, Joe Flacco to back him up and Johnson to be available as the No. 3 quarterback.
The fact that the Bengals added Johnson suggests that there’s some concern that Burrow’s back injury, that caused him to miss practice time this week, could keep Burrow from playing on Sunday.
The Bengals signed the 40-year-old Johnson in March and didn’t make their 53-man roster but was re-signed to the practice squad after he was released. Johnson has played for 14 different teams over his 18-year career.
