It might have looked bad when it happened, but Caleb Williams and the Bears dodged a major bullet.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Caleb Williams has a Grade 2 hamstring injury that “doctors say could sideline him” for 3-4 weeks.
That doesn’t mean that Williams’ can’t return earlier, it just means that doctors believe that type of injury normally takes three to four weeks of recovery.
The Bears have already ruled out Williams for their Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night and have tried to keep the extent of his injury under wraps for “competitive-purpose advantages.”
If Williams does in fact miss the next three weeks, it would mean he is out for games against the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Green Bay Packers. Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons would be the fourth game should Williams miss that, as well.
It’s also good news that the Bears haven’t put Williams on injured reserve.
