The Green Bay Packers believe star linebacker Edgerrin Cooper suffered a season-ending torn achilles injury during the team’s 17-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cooper injured his Achilles on a non-contact injury, and it was as bad as it appeared when he required a cart to get off the field.
“Not good,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur told reporters after the team’s 17-14 win. “I would suspect [he tore his Achilles], yes.”
Achilles tears are easily diagnosed, but Cooper will undergo an MRI to confirm.
Cooper totaled a team-leading nine tackles, a sack, a quarterback hit, an interception and a pass defensed before leaving with 8:43 remaining in the third quarter on Xavier McKinney’s sack of Jalon Daniels.
The Packers (2-2) will move forward without Cooper.
