Beginning with Colin Kaepernick, NFL players began kneeling during the National Anthem in 2016 to bring awareness to racial opression and police brutality, which fell on deaf ears.
Numerous unarmed black men publicly murdered for the world to see by racists and cops later, and they’ll kneel again, hoping to finally be heard.
NFL Vet and Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson was asked about the matter on Friday, stating that NFL players are gearing up to do it again this year.
“Years ago, seeing Kaepernick taking a knee, now we’re all ready to take a knee together going into this season without a doubt,” Peterson said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.
Asked if he will take a knee, Peterson replied: “Without a doubt, without a doubt.”
The NFL kneeling topic has always been up for debate, with Drew Brees being shamed across the sports world this week for his comments saying he’ll still “never agree” with someone who kneels, ever amidst the protests that carry the same message 5 years later.
President Donald Trump tweeted out Saturday night condemning Bree’s apology for his statement, saying “NO KNEELING!” in all caps.
At the same time, the NFL released a video with Roger Goodell delivering a message basically admitting the league was wrong on the kneeling situation and will do better to listen to black players and coaches on the troubles they and other black members of the community still continue to face living in the United States.
