The talk of the NFL’s opening Monday Night Football game was “Can you imagine this team with Antonio Brown?”
Brown of course signed with the Patriots Saturday after being released from the Raiders prior in the day, and the final straw that broke the camels back could have very well been a video the star WR released the day prior.
Brown uploaded an awkward yet masterfully produced video documenting a call with former head coach Jon Gruden.
Only problem? Recording that call was illegal.
California is a two consent state, meaning in order to record a conversation electronically, both parties must consent to such.
Without consent from both sides, the charge includes a 1-year jail sentence and a $2,500 fine per California Penal Code 632 (an invasion of privacy statute that essentially forbids the recording of a conversation without the knowledge/consent of both parties).
Of course Gruden would have to report his former WR to authorities in order for Brown to be charged, which is highly unlikely, but wouldn’t it be a hilarious move of revenge…
