We’ve heard a lot of bad takes about Colin Kaepernick and why he’s jobless but former New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and current New York sports radio host Boomer Esiason might just have dropped the worst take yet.
Esiason was a guest on The Toucher and Rich Radio Show on Monday and dropped his take on why the Packers signing Colin Kaepernick doesn’t make sense.
Spoiler Alert: Esiason contradicts himself:
“Oh, Jesus. This guy’s like a tooth ache that just won’t go away … He’s not going to play for me and my West Coast Offense, which is what they run up there [in Green Bay].”
Boomer is basically saying that Kaepernick couldn’t pick up on the West Coast Offense, which doesn’t make any sense considering Kaepernick’s successful years in the NFL came under Jim Harbaugh, who runs … the West Coast Offense.
But the ‘Hot Take’ doesn’t stop there, Boomer continues:
“There is no way in the world that Colin Kaepernick could go in there tomorrow, learn that offense and go out on the field and play next week. I don’t know what people are thinking about. I don’t know why they don’t understand that the NFL and offenses in the NFL are extremely difficult to pick up, and that’s why I give former Patriot quarterback Jacoby Brissett as much credit as I possibly can, doing what he’s doing what he’s doing with the Indianapolis Colts, and he’s been doing it on the fly.”
So even though Boomer says it’s impossible for Kaepernick to pick up on an offense he ran successfully in San Francisco under Jim Harbaugh, he contradicts himself by giving us an example of a quarterback (who isn’t as good as Colin Kaepernick) doing exactly that!
But Boomer wasn’t done, folks. He, then went on to make the most common excuse people make during their Anti-Kaepernick hot take:
“The other aspect of all of this with Colin Kaepernick is how much does he want? And how much more is he going to let somebody else talk for him? When is he going to open his own mouth and say, ‘Yeah, you know, I want to play and this is how much I want.’”
Esiason went from “Kaepernick can’t learn an offense” to questioning whether he wants to play or not.
Well, that take doesn’t make sense either, considering:

But wait, Boomer isn’t done:
“Everyone just assumes that somebody should just sign him because he went to the Super Bowl a number of years ago and they should write him a $10 million check because he’s some sort of activist.”
So now, Boomer isn’t being just out-right offensive but he’s also making no sense when it comes to the financially aspect of it.
Colin Kaepernick sees quarterbacks like Jay Cutler, Brock Osweilier and even Mike Glennon make north of $10 million, yet it’s wrong for Kaepernick to ask for it?
By the way, Kaepernick has yet to talk about compensation with any team.
Boomer continued,
“I’m sorry. It doesn’t work that way. You’re either prepared to play and when you go in and you get an opportunity, you make the most of it. Remember, he’s the one that walked away from the San Francisco 49ers. He’s the one that said, ‘Hey, I’ll go walk away from my contract and the amount of money you’re going to pay me.’ At the end of the day, other teams decided to interview and didn’t want him.”
So now, Boomer brings up the fact that Kaepernick “walked away” from his contract in San Francisco. In this instant, Boomer isn’t technically wrong, Kaepernick did opted out of his contract but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway considering, new 49ers GM John Lynch admitted that the team would have cut Kaepernick regardless:

“Yes,” Lynch said regarding whether Kaepernick would have been cut if he hadn’t opted out, “and we had that conversation with him. So I don’t want to characterize it as he made a decision to leave here.”
Boomer continued to ramble on talking about how teams have tried to talk to Colin Kaepernick, which again is false. The only team that gave Kaepernick a try-out was the Seattle Seahawks, they ended up passing on him and the reasoning made absolutely no sense.
As long as Kaepernick remains a free agent, we’ll continue to see self-entitled folks like Boomer Esiason drop stupid hot takes like this to make every excuse in the book for why Kaepernick isn’t signed.
Even though, it’s pretty clear why Kaepernick is a free agent.
