After a rough 1-4 start to the Chip Kelly era in San Francisco, reports are that the coach will bench current quarterback Blaine Gabbert for backup Colin Kaepernick.

Gabbert, who has the most losses of any QB since entering the league, lost another last night vs the Cardinals on Thursday Night Football, finishing 18 for 31 with 162 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs.

Though reports surfaced Friday morning that 3rd-string QB Christian Ponder had the support of the 49ers locker room to overtake Gabbert as the starter, Jason Cole of Bleacher Report is reporting that according to sources, the team will finally make the seemingly inevitable move back to #7.

During the team’s Thursday night game, chants of “We Want Kaep” flooded Levi’s Stadium during the 4th quarter.

Kaepernick came into the season already behind Gabbert due to offseason shoulder surgery which was followed by his National Anthem protests, drawing massive amount of negative attention to the QB and the team.

Though some feel as if the protests have led to Kaepernick still finding himself as the second string, Kelly and the team have denied all such accusations.
