ESPN has been looking for a mainstay at color commentator for their Monday Night Football broadcast even since Jason Witten and Booger McFarland received sub par reviews from viewers.
It looks like we may be stuck with Booger for longer than we had hopes.
The network made a run at Peyton Manning earlier this year in hopes of finding a Tony Romo-like figure in the booth, but after getting turned down, turned their sights towards Drew Brees. The Saints quarterback not too longer after announced that he would returning to play for at least another year.
Knowing Brees is somewhat close to retirement, networks like NBC and ESPN still offered Brees a perspective contract upon his eventual retirement, and he’s made his decision.
According to the New York Post, Brees will sign with NBC Sports and join their telecasts when the 41-year-old hangs up the cleats.
After starting out as an analyst for Notre Dame football and a studio analyst for “Football Night In America”, Brees will eventually make the jump to the SNF booth, joining Mike Turico, who will replace Al Michaels after the 2022 Super Bowl.
