SAN JOSE, CA – There’s always that one guy. The one guy who has a little too much fun during Super Bowl week. That guy this year? Denver Broncos Safety Ryan Murphy.

According to reports, Murphy was detained after being found in a prostitution sting in San Jose, CA, neighboring Santa Clara where the Super Bowl will be played. The sting was part of Santa Clara County’s multi-agency human trafficking task force. Authorities were targeting an area of north San Jose known for prostitution. Sources say police detained a suspected prostitute in the area of a Motel 6 at North First Street and Brokaw. The woman told task force members that she had to go to a car to retrieve some property.Murphy eventually was released and was not charged in the incident, but the Broncos have since sent Murphy home.

“Although practice squad safety Ryan Murphy was not cited by police, we decided it was best for the team if we continued our preparations for Super Bowl 50 without him,” the team said in a statement. “Ryan is returning to Denver but his status as a practice squad player has not changed at this time.”

The San Jose Mercury News reported that the sting involved Murphy’s brother and was conducted by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Police. The paper, citing sources, said the pair was questioned by sheriff’s deputies Tuesday evening at a Motel 6 in north San Jose.

Murphy, originally from nearby Oakland, was inside that car along with his brother. Sources said Murphy was questioned and released by police. However, his brother and the suspected prostitute were cited.” Murphy’s brother, according to multiple reports, was cited for solicitation.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Murphy this year but released him, to which he was picked up by Denver.

Not a good look for a guy one would presume trying to make an NFL roster. Solicited sex > Super Bowl for some people.
