If this story doesn’t do some clarifying on why the Browns have been the joke of the NFL over decades now, we don’t know what will.

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, the Browns fired several scouts prior to this year’s NFL draft in April for being high on quarterback Carson Wentz, the same guy who’s tearing it up as the starting QB for the Eagles.

The Browns’ chief strategy officer went on record back in July ahead of that draft saying that they didn’t have Wentz as one of the top 20 quarterbacks on the board. The source noted that some of the more experienced team scouts, the same ones which were fired, preferred Wentz over Goff, the eventually #1 overall pick. The organization fired those scouts prior to their contracts expiring before the draft.

Wentz has exceeded all expectations in his first two games as an NFL QB, games which just two weeks ago, he was listed as the 3rd emergency quarterback for. With the trade of Sam Bradford and leap over Chase Daniel, Wentz is the first rookie since the NFL merger to win his first two career NFL starts while not throwing one interception in either game.

Cleveland opted to trade away the #2 overall pick in that draft to the Eagles along with a fourth-rounder in exchange for the #8, 77 and 100 picks, along with future first and second-rounders.

Meanwhile, the Browns after two games are down to their third-string QB after Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown both went down with injuries. Ironically enough, Cleveland traded the pick to Philadelphia that the Eagles used to draft Wentz because they acquired RGIII, the same QB who got hurt Week 1 against Wentz.
