On Saturday, Kwon Alexander’s 17-year-old brother died.
On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie linebacker was on the field having with the best game of his life in the win against the undefeated Atlanta Falcons.
Alexander dedicated the game, and game ball, to his brother. He finished with a team and career high 11 tackles to go along with 2 turnovers, including an interception and a fumble recovery.
The 21-year-old LSU product was understandably emotional after the contest. He spoke to Joe Kania of the team’s official site after the Bucs won, 23-20, in overtime:
(I was) very determined. It was the only thing on my mind because the only thing that he wanted was for me to ball. I gave this game to him.
It’s been hard, man, losing my little brother. I know he would want me to be strong for him so I came out here and dedicated this game to him. I’m just ready to be back with my family.
During an age where fantasy stats and superstars dominate headlines, stories like Alexander’s are still the most powerful.
