Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is dealing with more off-the-field troubles, this time for speeding.
The 21-year-old is appealing a misdemeanor conviction for speeding after a state trooper clocked his 2016 Dodge Charger traveling 100 miles per hour on the Dallas North Tollway in Frisco, Texas earlier this year.
The appeal bond was posted Friday, and the case was forwarded to the county court at law Monday, according to court documents. The court has yet to assign a judge to the case.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Elliott was stopped on the tollway just after 3 p.m. April 4. The posted speed limit was 70 mph. Traffic was light. The weather was clear/cloudy as written on the citation:
The Texas Department of Public Safety trooper also gave Elliott a warning for not having a front license plate, according to the citation.
Elliott’s attorney filed a letter with the courts on June 28 waiving a jury trial and entering a plea of no contest. The court accepted the plea earlier this month.
Elliott’s attorney declined to comment on the case.
The conviction adds to a list of off the field issues that has troubled the young star running back, as he awaits a decision from the NFL on whether he violated the league’s personal conduct policy. The investigation began after a woman accused him of assault last year.
Authorities are also looking into Elliott’s involvement in an altercation Sunday night at a Dallas bar.
