High School Player Gouges Opposing Players Eyes, Aqib Talib Style

Man, high school kids are on a hot streak of dirty players this season, and this fits right in there with them.

A week after Broncos DB Aqib Talib purposefully poked the eye of a Colts’ player and was consequently suspended for 1 game, we now have high school football players doing the same. Seems like Talib was quite the inspiration.

During this rivalry game between Minneapolis North and Minneota High, North defender Antwan Cobble jabbed the sh*t out of Minneota Isaac Hennen’s eye. North would go on to lose the Class 1A Prep Bowl 35-18.

No penalties were called on the play, obviously the refs didn’t see the cheap shot.

North head coach Charles Adams said Sunday morning that he did not see the play, but his school’s administrators have been in touch with Minneota officials about the incident.

“I don’t teach kids to do that, to poke people in the eye,” Adams said. “I don’t accept it or tolerate it.”

Adams, however, did say there was plenty of questionable behavior going on by players on both sides.

“My players usually respond to things that are happening,” he said. “It was chippy on both sides. … There were a million things that could’ve been caught on the field by either team.”

Whether or not they like it, NFL players are the role models of hundreds of thousands of kids everywhere, and moronic stuff like this translates, having bigger implications than just a one-game suspension.
