Darrelle Revis has been one of the greatest corner backs of all time throughout his illustrious nine-year career but the 31-year old has been struggling mightily this season and he thinks he knows why.

It’s because he’s old.

Revis spoke with Gary Myers of the New York Daily News:

“Because I’m old,” Revis told the Daily News.
“You have bumps in the road,” he said. “Are you going to see a one catch for one yard game? Probably not. I was 23, 24 years old then,” he said, referring to holding Reggie Wayne of the Colts to one catch for one yard in the Jets 2010 wild-card victory.
“I think people look at the price tag and not the whole body of work on what I’ve done in this game,” Revis said. “It will be forever remembered. I’m not being cocky about it. The numbers are there. They show. I shut down some of the best of the best playing man-to-man coverage.”
They’re not looking at the whole body of work. When Peyton Manning throws three picks, you don’t talk his price.”
“I’ve done that,” he insisted. “We both negotiated a deal and that’s what it is. They believe in me and they believe what I am capable of doing. This is not tennis, I’m not playing golf. This is a team sport. Everybody gets paid according to how they perform.”
“I have to adjust my game in a lot of ways,” he said. “I’m not going to get down on myself. I’m a very confident person. I’m going to keep on working like I usually do. It comes from where I grew up. We’re tough. We put the hard hat on and go back to work and find out what the problems is and try to solve it.”

After one season with the New England Patriots, Darrelle Revis came back to where his career began and signed a 5-year $70 million contract ($39 million guaranteed) with the New York Jets in 2015.

The Jets will have a tough decision to make after this season regarding Revis.
