Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier Staredown Gets Ugly

The Main Event at UFC 178 between UFC Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is a month away and a half away but the two opponents got the brawl started early at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada Monday afternoon.

When the two met face-to-face in a stare-down, Cormier shoved the Jones backwards. Jones retaliated back by throwing a punch over UFC representative Dave Sholler, who was standing in between the two fighters. Jones continued to surge forward which led to both fighters falling through a backdrop and onto the floor of the MGM Grand lobby.

UFC security officers tried to break the two men apart but Jones continued to throw punches at Cormier, who had his hands held behind his back by security attempted to kick Jones with his feet and nearly landed a kick on the champions head.

When UFC security was finally able to separate the two fighters, Jones went back on stage and reportedly “raised his face to the ceiling and let out a ferocious howl.”

Following the incident Jones sent out a series of tweets directed at Cormier:

Come on DC where was your takedown defense?

I put you on your back in six seconds

Put some ice on that face DC, you got lots of interviews tomorrow

The challenger, Daniel Cormier responded back at Jon Jones on twitter:

I got some td def for you. Dont ever put ur dirty face on me again.

I wont let another man get in my face and put his forehead against mine. I will react every time. @JonnyBones next time I will slap you
