Patriots fans’ hearts sank last week when high-touted rookie WR Malcolm Mitchell went down with a gruesome dislocated elbow injury after trying to break his fall while being tackled. The high hopes of the 85th overall pick out of Georgia seemed to have to be put on hold.

Initial reports by team doctors gave surprisingly good news, saying Mitchell would only be sidelined for about 4-6 weeks.

That news got even better Monday when Mitchel appeared and participated in pads at Patriots practice in Foxborough.

Mitchell’s MRIs did come back clean, meaning there was no significant muscle, nerve or ligament damage in his elbow, yet there is no timetable for his return though it does appear favorable.
