Last week, an interesting stat came to light involving Reggie Bush on pace to make NFL history. Today, he cemented his place as statitsically having the worst season by a running back in NFL history.
Just how bad was Bush’s season? After the loss to the Jets today, the once electrifying player finished the season with negative rushing yards, -3 to be exact. He becomes the first running back ever to reach such a mark (with 10-plus attempts).
He beats out the previous record, which was 4 yards, courtesy of Charlie Smith in 1971. Clarence Davis also had 4 yards on 14 carries in 1978, though he only played two games.
Bush finished with negative 8 rushing yards in the Bills’ loss on Saturday, which also knocked them out of the playoffs. The game put him in the negatives for the season. Bush needed only 3 yards Sunday to avoid the record, coming up 3 shy.
All in all, the Buffalo Bills paid $1.5 million to have three yards taken away from them.
