SANTA CLARA – It hasn’t been more than a month since Chip Kelly landed in San Francisco and as of today, it looks like former 49ers starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants out, per the New York Daily News.

The QB went from under the radar college prospect to almost leading the Niners to a Super Bowl victory ad has now fallen to bench player apparently wanting to go to the Jets. The Jets. Just shows how bad it’s gotten for the 49ers.

Many advocated for the Chip Kelly hiring with the basis that the seemingly perfect QB already in place, although not starting, in Kaepernick of course. A decent enough pocket passer with a strong arm and a mobile ability with his legs to the point where drawn up running plays can be called fits the mold of quarterbacks Kelly has been successful with.

“The Daily News has learned that embattled 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco after a forgettable 2015 that included on-field struggles that resulted in a benching midway through the season and a coaching change after it. The Jets are his preferred destination, according to sources.”

The Jets, aware of Kaepernick’s desire to play for them, are intrigued, but still in the early stages of their offseason planning and evaluation, according to sources. They’re also deathly afraid of tampering (see: Darrelle Revis situation, circa 2015).”

Though these reports have surfaced, Kaepernick still has a remaining five years left on his contract from a $114 million extension signed in 2014 that includes clauses favoring the 49ers if certain situations arose. The team has the ability to cut Kaepernick, who is currently recovering from multiple offseason surgeries on his throwing shoulder, knee and thumb. The 49ers have until April 1 to decide whether to cut, trade or keep Kaepernick on the roster. After April 1, Kaepernick is guaranteed his $11.9 million salary for the 2016 season. The Jets, who narrowly missed the playoffs coming off a 10-win season, would have to trade for Kaepernick to make these allegations come to fruition or wait until he’s cut.

Could we see this in 2016? We’ll have to wait and see.
