REPORT: Marshawn Lynch Eyeing Return, Possibly Around Week 4

Though many fans called the bluff of Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch on his decision to retire, Beastmode hung up his cleats after the 2015-2016 season, literally.

Adamant he was done with football, Beastmode shot down allegations both before and after he retired that he wasn’t serious about it.

They may have a case now.

After officially announcing his retirement on the night of the Super Bowl, a source with knowledge of the situation is claiming Lynch is currently considering an NFL comeback, news which comes on the night of the first game of the new season.

Per the source who claimed he’s “up in the air” about his return, Lynch could be back on the field around Week 4 or 5.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Seattle Seahawks still hold Lynch’s rights, since he was placed on the reserve-retired list. If he were to file the necessary paperwork to terminate his ‘retired’ status, the team will have to make a decision on if they want to bring Marshawn back onto the active roster, to trade him, or to cut him.

PFT also notes Lynch has a $9 million salary; the prorated amount of it would hit the team’s salary cap, if he’s reinstated to the active roster. The Seahawks have, by all appearances, moved on; however, the team’s won-loss record and overall effectiveness of its offense will surely be factors in whatever decision the team makes.
