REPORT: NFL Has Discussed Possibility Of Moving The Chargers To London

With the NFL expanding their International Series in order the grow global interest in American football, and the league in particular, it’s apparent that the end goal would be to have at least one franchise based overseas.

With the Chargers’ relocation back to Los Angeles not going well, the team seems the most opportune to be the first NFL team to call across the pond it’s home.

Vincent Bonsignore of The Athletic is reporting that the Chargers franchise has been involved in talks of relocation to London.

Here’s a short excerpt from the article:

“Finally, The Athletic has learned that NFL owners are concerned enough about the Chargers’ situation in L.A., where a crowded sports market and the presence of the more established Rams has resulted in a tepid embracement of the Chargers, that they would provide the necessary support for a relocation to London if the Chargers pursue it.”

“Some would be happy …” a high-ranking NFL official tells Bonsignore. “But all of them (are concerned) about them in L.A. So I think they would get (support).”

“The current path they are on will not yield results in the foreseeable future,” an NFL source told The Athletic. “They need to consider something to shake up their franchise. This would give them a major international market and the chance to shine.”
