Seahawks’ Jon Ryan Celebrates Fake FG TD Pass vs. Packers with ‘Discount Double Check’

Punters don’t often get to celebrate touchdown passes during an NFL game (let alone the NFC Championship Game) so when they do get that chance, they better have a celebration ready, because after all this moment might never happen again.

Seattle Seahawks punter Jon Ryan was certainly ready for his moment against his former team, the Green Bay Packers last Sunday. Ryan got the Seahawks on the board during the 2015 NFC Title Game by throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to Garry Gilliam on a fake field goal in the third quarter.

However, the FOX broadcast didn’t show Ryan celebrating with putting on Aaron Rodgers’ championship belt – and directed it at Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy. It was McCarthy who cut Ryan from the Packers before the start of the 2008 season.

Ryan told Tom Pelissero of USA Today that he had been waiting to get back at McCarthy since the day he was cut:

I did the belt right at (Packers coach) Mike McCarthy.

Nothing serious. It was all in fun obviously. I have nothing but respect for Mike McCarthy. When I was in Green Bay, he was great to me. Just like Aaron Rodgers when he does it, it’s all in fun. No one takes things serious.
