During the second day of Seattle Seahawks minicamp on Wednesday, Seattle Seahawks’ cornerback Richard Sherman was involved in a fiery scuffle with third year wide receiver Phil Bates. The altercation was so intense, Bates jersey was torn off and punches were thrown.  Teammates interfered in breaking up the fight, which also caused a mini offense vs defense war.

Ultimately cooler heads prevailed after head coach Pete Carroll had a talk with the team. According to Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta, many of the players laughed off the incident and were joking around with each other by the end of the practice.

Q13 Fox provided a more in-depth look at the scuffle, as well as players’ reactions:

Richard Sherman who has never shined away from the spotlight has been the news recently after signing his contract extension this offseason, he was involved in a social media war with Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson. Now, this altercation with his teammate will give the Richard Sherman-haters another reason to bash the All-Pro cornerback.

But to many Seahawks fans, the only thing this shows is that the Seahawks haven’t lost any intensity or passion this offseason after winning the Super Bowl in February. It shows that a receiver Bates, who is looking to make a name for himself on a team that is looking for Golden Tate’s replacement. Nothing will prove that more then not backing down from the team’s best defender.

If you ask any Seahawks fans, the smart thing in the future would be not to throw punches when someone is wearing a helmet, nothing good ever comes out of it.
