A Florida native and Pittsburgh Steelers fan now living in Indonesia is fighting for his life after a monkey stole his favorite Steelers hat on Monday.
According to the Associated Press, Jeff “Swede” Swedenhjelm fell an estimated 33 feet off a rooftop in Bali, Indonesia chasing the monkey in effort to get his hat back.
Local villagers found him and transported him to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with a severe spine injury and currently remains paralyzed from the chest down.
Swedenhjlem is currently in a medically-induced coma and is on a ventilator. His daughter, Lyric, who lives in Destin, Florida, is attempting to get him transported to a country with a spinal specialist who can treat her father after the hospital he’s currently being treated at failed tog et him an MRI until 24 hours after the accident, Wendy Victoria of the Northwest Florida Daily News reports.
The family is attempting to raise funds to help pay for medical expenses and so far have raised over $41,000.00 on a GoFundMe page already. The stated goal of the GoFundMe page is to raise $100,000 and states that it will cost at least $30,000 to get him transported to a hospital in Singapore and another $30,000 for treatment.
