Swimmer Sacrifices Race To Stand For Moment Of Silence For Barcelona Victims After Officials Deny Request For One

Barcelona was hit with a tragic terrorist attack last Thursday when a man drove through . crowd in his vehicle, striking dozens, wounding over a hundred and killing 15.

Last weekend, Spanish swimmer Fernando Alvarez set out to honor the victims, asking the International Swimming Federation for a moment of silence to be held prior to the Master World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

After being denied, Alvarez took matters into his own hands. Ahead of his 200m breaststroke race, the swimmer stood for his own moment of silence when the race began, of course throwing his chances of winning.
