Tony Romo’s 2016 season consisted of an injury leading the Cowboys to benching the 37-year old QB in favor of the rookie sensation, Dak Prescott.
But Romo’s 2016 season had a brief Week 17 return which at the most was an audition for a new job. It was a short audition but it also turned out to be a small bonus for Romo.
According to NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus, Romo pocketed an extra $64.11 by going 3/4 for 29 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys Week 17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, a game in which the Cowboys were resting starter Dak Prescott because Dallas had nothing to play for.
Prescott cashed in a $354,544.77 performance-based bonus after starting every game.
The bonus was nothing compared to Romo’s ginormous salary in 2016. Roma’s cap hit in 2016 was $20.835 million; he made way more than Prescott, who was on Year 1 of his rookie contract, receiving a salary of $545,848.00.
I don’t know what $64.11 will buy Romo, maybe a Cowboys #9 jersey when the Cowboys eventually move on from him.
