Tony Romo Throws TD Pass On First Possession Back Under Center For Cowboys

The mood amongst Cowboys fans was bleak when Cliff Avril tackled Tony Romo from behind some 19 weeks ago in the preseason. Due to a guy named Dak Prescott, that seems way back in the rear view mirror.

The veteran Cowboys QB was placed on the IR before the season opener with a fractured back, leaving Dallas forced to thrust in their 5th round draft pick out of Mississippi State. Needless to say, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys couldn’t have predicted was would happen next.

Dallas would go 13-2 through 15 weeks with Prescott under center, of course aided by another pick from this year’s draft, running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Romo was placed back on the active roster in Week 10, only to be withheld from action due to Prescott’s wild success.

With the Cowboys having cinched the NFC East and in their final game before the postseason, the decision was made to have Romo play, entering the game in 2nd quarter versus the Eagles, presumably in attempt to wipe some of the rust away with the playoffs looming and an emergency situation for-seeable.

On his first possession, Romo tossed a touchdown pass.

The pass would be his last of the season, with 3rd-string QB Mark Sanchez entering on the following possession.
