The Clemson Tigers defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels to capture the ACC Championship crown Saturday evening, but not without controversy. In the waning seconds of the 4th quarter, the Tar Heels recovered a perfectly executed onside kick, but it was nullified by a phantom offsides penalty.

The Atlantic Coast Conference’s (ACC) officiating has been horrid this season, with blown calls that were potential game deciding swings, including game with Miami vs Duke, Miami vs UNC, and now Clemson vs. UNC., only this one could have perhaps been National Championship tying.
conspiracy theories aside, there is logical motivation for the conference refs to throw this game, on the premise of keeping an ACC team in the NCAA Playoff. With a Clemson loss, the confercne would be void of contending teams, which is of course, maybe the worst thing that can happen to the ACC at this point.
Here’s a super slow-mo replay of the supposably “offsides”
Not offsides and not a late flag…ref is reaching for it right away…just a bad call pic.twitter.com/H2n35SCiqw

That was NOT offsides!!! — T.J. Yates (@TJ_Yates) December 6, 2015
That bad call for offsides just ruined the Clemson game.
