The story of the 2017 National Championship game was the officiating, with phantom foul after phantom foul. Ironically, one whistle the refs didn’t blow, very well might have screwed Gonzaga out their first title.
With under a minute left, UNC’s Kennedy Meeks went to the floor in a scramble for the basketball that resulted in a jump ball. With the ref standing right over the play, Meek’s entire hand out-of-bounds was missed.

The call was even more obvious from a top-down view.
The jump ball call gave the possession back to UNC, with the Heels scoring and moving their lead from 1 to 3 points.
Gonzaga never recovered.
